Welcome to The Shifters Hot Rod & Custom Car Club Inc. P.O. Box 407 Engadine NSW 2233 Our Club meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at Club Heathcote, 24 Oliver St, Heathcote NSW from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.
When the Shifters Hot Rod Club was formed in 1962, there was 3 hot rods registered for street use and 4 others under construction. Eight enthusiasts were the foundation members, Rod Foote, James Wynne, Peter Folbrigg, John Fleming, Rocky Hurley, Denis Lyon,Dave Mead and Kevin Burton. In January the following year, a small party of Shifters members were the first to travel south to Melbourne to see what all the hullabaloo was about. Someone had mentioned drag races were being organized down there and at the time the sport hadn't been touched in there home state of NSW. From that first approach, the club has grown into one of the leading drag clubs in the state. A GOOD MOTTO The Shifters motto reads: A Hot Rod organization formed to promote interest in all types of hot rodding. The members have applied the motto in every way possible over the years. As the club name became more known, other clubs quickly sprung up in other parts of Sydney, and inquires flowed in requesting information on how to join the club. However too many members tend to spoil the activity broth, and the Shifters restricted their number to 30 and encouraged the formation of smaller clubs. AHRR Magazine.
